Home Ministry's big action on controversial religious leader Zakir Naik's NGO, ban extended for 5 years

 The Union Home Ministry has once again taken action on Zakir Naik's NGO Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act: UAPA) and the ban imposed in the year 2016. Extended for 5 years.

The ban was imposed for the first time in 2016 under UAPA.


Zakir Naik is currently living in Malaysia



New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has taken major action on Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), the NGO of controversial cleric Zakir Naik and extended the ban imposed on the organization for five years. The IRF was first declared an unlawful organization on 17 November 2016 by the Central Government under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967).



Zakir Naik is living in Malaysia


Controversial religious leader Zakir Naik is currently living in Malaysia. The Union Home Ministry said that Zakir Naik is promoting enmity and hatred between religious groups through his objectionable statements. Naik is inspiring youth of a particular religion to commit terrorist acts in India and abroad.


Ban on Islamic Research Foundation extended for 5 years

The ministry said that Zakir Naik gives radical statements and speeches to millions of people across the world through international satellite TV networks, internet, print and social media. The Union Home Ministry said that keeping all these aspects in mind, it has decided to extend the ban imposed on IRF under UAPA for another five years.
